Snow Leopard
About: Inhabiting the rugged, mountainous terrain of Central Asia and the Himalayas, snow leopards have long hind limbs and shortened front limbs, which allow them to leap 20 to 50 feet through the air. The diet of these cats varies by region and season, but consists mostly of wild sheep, goats, pikas, zokors and marmots. Why are they threatened and how have human actions contributed to their decline: Habitat range keeps declining due to human settlements and increased use of grazing space for domestic animals also decreases the range of the snow leopards habitat. Loss of habitat is also due to deforestation and the construction of dams. The human impact is also based around poaching them for their fur even though that doesn't effect the environment. All these issues mean that the snow leopard's habitat is either gone or fragmented - which means that there is a shortage of food sources and shelter (which would cause the deaths of many snow leopards), or they are forced to migrate into hostile areas or places that are already inhabited by a number of snow leopards, so they have to compete for their food. What can we do to help?
